According to reports, the building, which was already in a dilapidated condition, came crashing down unexpectedly, trapping several people under the debris. NEMA’s rescue team, alongside local authorities and concerned residents, quickly responded to the scene to rescue those trapped.
The NEMA Coordinator for Kano State, Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, confirmed the deaths of two individuals and said that two others were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Rescue operations are still ongoing to ensure no one is left under the rubble.
Speaking on the incident, residents expressed their grief and concern over the state of buildings in the area. One resident, Musa Haruna, lamented that many structures in the neighbourhood were old and poorly maintained, calling for urgent intervention from the government to prevent further tragedies.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse and have urged building owners to prioritize the maintenance of their properties to avoid similar occurrences.
