In response to a recent Supreme Court ruling requiring states to conduct Local Government Council elections no later than October 2024, the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSAIC) has announced a new date for the polls.

The elections, originally scheduled for an earlier date, will now take place on October 26, 2024.

KANSAIC Chairman, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, shared the updated schedule during a press briefing on Friday. He also detailed changes to the timeline for the release of election guidelines and notifications, which have been postponed from August 15 to August 31, 2024.

“Party Primaries and submission of Names of Candidates to the Commission is now 3rd September 2024 to 14th September 2024,” Professor Malumfashi stated.

The revised timeline includes the sale of forms, which will be conducted from September 15 to September 26, 2024. Candidates are expected to submit their completed forms between September 27 and October 8, 2024.
