Acting Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe, has officially announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew that was earlier imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area, along with 33 other Local Government Areas across the state. This decision was taken following a report indicating an improvement in the security situation within these areas.

The initial curfew, which restricted movement entirely, has now been revised to a 12-hour window, with residents of the affected LGAs expected to stay indoors from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. This measure, according to the Acting Governor, aims to balance the need for public safety with the recognition that normalcy is gradually returning to the region.

The review of the curfew came after Jobe presided over a meeting of the State Security Council on Monday evening, where various security agencies provided updates on the situation. The Acting Governor expressed his appreciation for the improved security and the efforts of law enforcement agencies in maintaining order. He also praised the civil manner in which security personnel handled the situation, particularly during recent protests where hoodlums attempted to exploit the unrest for criminal activities.

Despite the relaxation of the curfew, the Acting Governor emphasized that certain restrictions would remain in place. Specifically, the ban on unusual gatherings and all forms of protests will continue to be enforced across the state. This decision reflects the government’s cautious approach to ensuring that the relative peace being experienced is not disrupted by any form of civil unrest.

Jobe also took the opportunity to commend parents, guardians, and community leaders who played a crucial role in discouraging the youth from participating in unlawful activities. He acknowledged the positive impact of their guidance in preventing the situation from escalating further.

In the aftermath of the disturbances, the State Security Council has reported the arrest of several individuals believed to be involved in the recent violence, including looting and the vandalization of both public and private property. According to Barrister Abdullahi Faskari, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, some of those arrested have already been arraigned in court on charges of criminal conspiracy, causing public disturbance, vandalization, and theft.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Director of Press, Malam Abdullahi Yar’adua, Faskari reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He called on the people of Katsina State to remain calm and continue to abide by the law, assuring them that the government is fully committed to safeguarding lives and property during this challenging period.

The Acting Governor’s actions demonstrate the state government’s proactive approach in addressing the complex security challenges facing Katsina State. By easing the curfew while maintaining certain restrictions, the government aims to restore normalcy without compromising public safety. As the situation continues to evolve, residents are urged to cooperate with authorities and support efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.
