The Caretaker Committee of the Katsina State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shed light on a deepening internal conflict that threatens to overshadow the party’s efforts to consolidate ahead of crucial political engagements in the state.
In a press conference, Lawal Audi Yar’adua, the spokesperson for the caretaker committee, addressed recent controversies raised by a faction led by Salisu Uli, a former chairman of the party. Yar’adua refuted what he deemed as “misleading information” from Uli’s faction.
Earlier, Salisu Uli had expressed concerns about the caretaker committee’s handling of the congress elections, stating that the sales of forms for interested members had not been made available in a timely manner.
However, Yar’adua clarified that the sales of forms were transparently communicated and completed over two months ago, during which Uli’s faction chose not to participate due to their contestation of the committee’s legitimacy and refusal to engage in the party’s structured processes.
Yar’adua raised concerns about potential external influence, suggesting that Uli’s actions could be politically motivated by the Katsina All Progressives Congress (APC).
He accused Uli and his supporters of aligning with forces within the APC who aim to weaken the Katsina PDP, particularly following the defection of former Governor Ibrahim Shema to the APC.
Amidst the internal challenges, Yar’adua urged party unity and praised Senator Lado Danmarke’s leadership and dedication to the people. He contrasted Danmarke’s commitment to the true spirit of service and compassion with those who seek to sow discord and division.
Expressing confidence in the PDP’s resilience, Yar’adua called upon party members to remain steadfast in their support despite the internal strife.
The Katsina PDP faces critical political showdowns, and unity within the party is vital to overcome external challenges and ensure a strong presence in the state’s political landscape.
