Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 presidential election, has rallied party members to reclaim the essence of their organization.

This plea follows a statement from Peter Obi, the LP’s presidential candidate, who characterized Okonkwo not as a traitor but as a cherished brother, amidst accusations that Okonkwo had turned against the party.

Just prior to Obi’s comments, Okonkwo had announced his departure from the party and the Obidient movement, prompting the LP to brand him as a mole.

Despite this, Obi expressed his disappointment over Okonkwo’s exit, emphasizing the significant role he played in the party’s mission to foster a new Nigeria.

Obi’s supportive remarks appear to have mollified Okonkwo, who subsequently took to social media to warn party members to steer clear of the Abure-led National Working Committee, which he described as detrimental.

He urged LP affiliates to unite in their efforts to establish a party capable of challenging the current administration. Okonkwo stated, “Abure left the INEC meeting in disgrace alongside his comrade Umar Farouk. I implore Nigerians and prospective candidates to shun the Abure-led National Working Committee to avoid being deceived.”

He emphasized the necessity of fighting for the Labour Party’s integrity, asserting that it must serve as a robust platform for advocating the welfare of Nigerians.

Okonkwo called on every LP member to collaborate with key stakeholders and the National Transition Committee to strengthen the party, enabling it to reclaim power from what he termed the “kakistocrats and kleptocrats” for the benefit of the nation.
