Renowned Nollywood actor and attorney, Kenneth Okonkwo, has announced his departure from the Labour Party, signaling a significant shift in his political affiliations. Previously a prominent spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign during the 2023 elections, Okonkwo has also declared that he is parting ways with Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate.

In a public statement, Okonkwo expressed his intentions, stating, “I have made the decision to pursue my political aspirations in alignment with the vision I have for a better Nigeria, independent of Peter Obi.

My loyalty to any leader I support is unwavering, yet when I find myself unable to provide that complete loyalty, it is my duty to communicate that openly.”

He further elaborated, “Having initially committed to his campaign, I now feel it is important to inform everyone that I can no longer guarantee my support for his future endeavors.

This announcement liberates me to engage in discussions and collaborations with like-minded individuals as I consider the next steps in my political journey. While I am not looking to join the APC or PDP at this time, I remain focused on strengthening the Labour Party.”

Okonkwo emphasized the necessity of establishing a robust political party with deep grassroots connections to effectively challenge the existing political elite, which he referred to as “kakistocrats and kleptocrats.”

He called for a strong and decisive leader capable of cultivating a party grounded in integrity and character, asserting that the future government will largely emerge from the political platform of such a leader.
