Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed campaign, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Professor Mahmood Yakubu of operating as a criminal organization.
He made this statement in light of revelations from Athena Insights regarding the September gubernatorial election, which he claims indicate a significant breach of electoral protocols by INEC.
In a post on his X account, the Nollywood star called for the immediate arrest of Mahmood and all officials associated with the commission. He stated, “Following today’s revelations by Athena Insights concerning the Edo State gubernatorial election,
it is clear that INEC under Prof. Yakubu Mahmood has devolved into a criminal enterprise. It has been uncovered that the election was deliberately compromised at the INEC headquarters. Mahmood and the implicated INEC officials must face investigation, arrest, and prosecution for their unlawful actions during the election.”
Okonkwo further urged politicians and political parties to refrain from participating in any future electoral contests until the issues surrounding INEC’s blatant disregard for established electoral rules are rectified.
He emphasized that without prompt action to address INEC’s failures, subsequent electoral processes would be futile.
“Any politician or party that chooses to run in upcoming elections without addressing these concerns is merely wasting Nigerians’ time and resources, leading them to cast votes that hold no value. We have been vocal about these issues since the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election when INEC manipulated the results due to alleged technical glitches,” Okonkwo concluded.
