Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council, has urged President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi to refrain from participating in the 2027 elections.
He pointed to their failure to fulfill campaign promises and unite the opposition as key reasons for his appeal.
In an interview, Okonkwo stressed the necessity for fresh faces in the political arena, expressing that the current leadership has let the Nigerian populace down.
He also criticized the opposition for their lack of cooperation and missed opportunities to form strategic alliances, particularly in their failure to secure the positions of Speaker and Vice Speaker in the House of Representatives.
As the nation looks ahead to the 2027 elections, Okonkwo’s call for new leadership may resonate with citizens eager for a departure from the established political norm.
“I wholeheartedly believe we need new representatives, 100%, which is why I am advocating for the stepping aside of Atiku, Peter Obi, and Tinubu,” Okonkwo stated.
He highlighted the ruling party’s shortcomings, as well as the opposition’s inability to capitalize on their majority presence in the House of Representatives.
“You don’t just finish one election and immediately start discussing the next. Instead, you should solidify and form alliances to work together as a cohesive opposition force.”
“If all opposition members had collaborated in the House, they could have successfully elected their own Speaker and Vice,” he concluded.
