Kenyan President William Ruto has taken decisive action in response to the widespread anti-government protests by announcing the dismissal of nearly his entire cabinet.
In a move towards forming a “broad-based government,” Ruto aims to address the concerns raised by the people of Kenya.
All ministers, including the attorney-general, have been affected by this decision, except for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto explained that these dismissals came after careful reflection, attentively listening to the voices of the Kenyan people, and conducting a comprehensive evaluation of his cabinet’s accomplishments and challenges.
The protests, initially led by the spirited youth of Kenya, have transformed into a larger movement against Ruto and his government.
While the majority of demonstrations have remained peaceful, some unfortunate incidents have resulted in violent clashes.
In addition to the cabinet changes, Ruto has announced his intention to engage in extensive consultations across various sectors and political groups.
The objective is to establish a broad-based government that can tackle pressing issues such as the country’s substantial debt burden, job creation, efficient governance, and combating corruption.
