The Kogi State Government has banned traditional processions in Koton Karfe, a community in the Kogi Local Government Area (LGA) so as to maintain peace.
This directive was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja.
The decision to impose the ban was made in response to security reports indicating potential unrest in Koton Karfe, with allegations of certain individuals planning to instigate trouble in the area.
The ban is aimed at ensuring peace and stability in Koton Karfe and its surrounding areas.
Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is committed to promoting peaceful coexistence among all residents of Koton Karfe.
The governor encourages residents to voice their grievances through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of compliance with the ban, warning that those who violate it will be dealt with as enemies of peace and the state.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of the people of Koton Karfe and all citizens.
Law enforcement agencies have been urged to enforce the ban in accordance with the law. The government is prepared to protect the people of Koton Karfe from any form of violence, and residents are urged to prioritize peace and harmony in their community.
It is worth noting that former Governor Yahaya Bello, on January 8, removed Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isah-Koto as the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfe.
Isah-Koto, who also served as the Chairman of the Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Area Traditional Council, was subsequently replaced by Alhaji Saidu Akawu-Salihu.
Isah-Koto was removed and deposed to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
