The Kogi State Government has issued a stern warning to individuals illegally occupying National Housing Buildings in Phases I, II, and III at Crusher, Lokoja.

In a statement released today, January 3, 2025, by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Taiye Abanika, the government demanded the immediate vacation of the premises by unauthorized occupants.

Hon. Abanika emphasized that the illegal occupation undermines the objectives of the National Housing Programme (NHP), which aims to provide affordable housing solutions for Nigerians. Alarmingly, over 85% of the estate’s units are reportedly occupied unlawfully, with some occupants reselling the houses to unsuspecting buyers.

The affected housing units are detailed as follows:

  • Phase I: 76 units (4 one-bedroom semidetached bungalows, 48 two-bedroom semidetached bungalows, and 24 three-bedroom semidetached bungalows).
  • Phase II: 92 units (20 one-bedroom semidetached bungalows, 28 two-bedroom semidetached bungalows, and 44 three-bedroom semidetached bungalows).
  • Phase III: 92 units (16 one-bedroom semidetached bungalows, 28 two-bedroom semidetached bungalows, and 48 three-bedroom semidetached bungalows).

The government has called on illegal occupants to vacate the premises promptly, allowing rightful allottees who have completed payment to assume ownership. This move seeks to uphold the integrity of the National Housing Programme and protect legitimate homeowners’ interests.

The Kogi State Government has assured residents that it will take all necessary measures to restore order and ensure the housing programme achieves its intended goals.
