Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 Presidential Candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has declared that when the winds of change sweep through Nigeria in 2027, many will be desperate to escape.

This remark came as he welcomed thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to his party on Thursday.

During the event at his residence on Millar Road, Kwankwaso accepted an entire collapsed structure of the APC from the Dala Local Government area of Kano. He asserted, “Nigerians, especially those in the North, have endured enough suffering, and no amount of intimidation or violence will deter them from altering the current narrative.”

He urged Northern Nigerians to reassess their political stance, stating, “It is evident to everyone that the APC government’s direction is detrimental to the poor, and this will not change.”

Kwankwaso suggested that any belief that security forces and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could manipulate the upcoming elections would be futile. “The people are tired of their tactics and will rise to demand change,” he warned.

“When the storms of change arrive, those who believe they are protected by security and INEC will find themselves scrambling for safety. Nigerians will make the right choice to alleviate their hardships,” he added.

Describing the day as historic, Kwankwaso noted that over a thousand defectors from 12 wards of the Dala Local Government Council had joined NNPP, indicating a complete collapse of the APC structure in that area.

“Dala has historically been ours,” he remarked, appointing the new members as leaders in their respective categories. He emphasized that the doors of Kwankwasiyya and NNPP remain open to all newcomers.

Kwankwaso also welcomed defectors from Gwale and Kiru Local Governments, who cited the positive policies of the state government as their reason for leaving the APC.

“We established the APC together, but it has devolved into a cycle of hardship for the impoverished, with insecurity and poverty deeply affecting the lives of Nigerians. This situation is no longer tolerable for the citizens,” he concluded.
