The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) arrested Ibrahim Kabara, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Abdullahi Bashir, the State ALGON Chairman and interim Council Chairman of Tarauni Local Government.

They, along with five others, are being detained in connection with alleged corruption related to the procurement of drugs and medical equipment for Kano State’s 44 local governments on Tuesday.

The PCACC has also summoned Musa Garba, the Managing Director of Novomed Pharmaceuticals, and the nephew of former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for questioning as part of its investigation.

The commission suspects the detained officials of violating several laws, including the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law, the Public Procurement Law, and the Financial Management Law.

The allegations center on the improper awarding of a contract for drug and medical equipment supplies, reportedly executed without proper authorization from Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

A source close to the PCACC revealed that Abdullahi Ibrahim Bashir admitted to directing an illegal payment of ₦402.6 million for the procurement, with ₦347.7 million already paid by 38 local governments before the investigation began.

“These actions are a clear breach of the law,” the source, who wished to remain anonymous due to the investigation’s sensitivity, stated. “The officials bypassed essential protocols and proceeded with the contract without the necessary approvals.”

The arrested officials were brought to the PCACC office at 11 AM on Tuesday and were still in custody as of 11:15 AM, undergoing intensive questioning.

The PCACC has pledged to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure accountability for all involved. “We are dedicated to exposing the full scope of this corruption and holding those responsible accountable,” the source added.
