The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has agreed to return to the negotiation table with the federal government to discuss the long-standing issue of minimum wage. This comes after the labor union walked out of the previous meeting in protest of the government’s proposed minimum wage of N48,000.
According to the Vice President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr. Etim Okon, the labour union will attend the rescheduled meeting of the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage on Tuesday.
The committee comprises representatives from the government, labour unions, and the private sector.
The labour union had demanded a minimum wage of N65,000, citing the rising cost of living and inflation in the country.
The government, however, insisted that the proposed N48,000 was the maximum it could offer due to economic constraints.
The resumption of negotiation talks is seen as a positive development in the long-standing dispute, and both parties are expected to find a mutually acceptable solution to the minimum wage issue.
