A coalition known as the Alliance for All Labour Party Stakeholders and Professionals has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly employing desperate measures to undermine Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, and to discourage his participation in the upcoming 2027 elections.
In a statement released by Dr. Blessing Elaigwu, the coalition’s convener, the group condemned recent verbal assaults directed at Obi, particularly by APC National Spokesperson Mr. Felix Morka during a televised discussion.
Elaigwu noted that Morka’s refusal to retract his statements, despite being given several opportunities to do so by the show’s host, is indicative of the ruling party’s anxiety regarding Obi’s increasing popularity.
The statement read in part: “It is disheartening to observe such overt attempts to suppress dissenting opinions.”
“Morka’s recent threat to compile a list of 400 Nigerians to submit to security agencies represents a blatant effort to intimidate the populace into silence.”
“This clearly illustrates a government anxious about the looming reckoning at the polls in 2027.”
The coalition further lambasted the APC, labeling it as a proponent of a “policy of institutionalized impoverishment,” accusing the party of engendering unprecedented levels of poverty and inequality during its governance.
“Nigerians are fed up with the APC’s deceit and propaganda. Millions of citizens, worn down by this administration’s destructive policies, are getting ready to follow in the footsteps of their Ghanaian neighbors by standing against poor governance and reclaiming their economy,” the group asserted.
The coalition cautioned APC leaders against fostering an authoritarian environment that suppresses free expression, reiterating that Nigerians will not be silenced.
“Morka and others in the APC should prepare for increased scrutiny. If their goal is to stifle the voices of the people, they may need to expand our prisons and hire more guards, as citizens will persist in demanding accountability,” the coalition declared.
Dr. Elaigwu concluded by expressing unwavering confidence in Obi’s capability to guide Nigeria toward economic revitalization, affirming that the coalition and millions of Nigerians remain resolute in their support for him.
The Labour Party coalition urged the APC to concentrate on effective governance rather than intimidation, calling on the ruling party to tackle the critical issues facing Nigerians instead of attempting to discredit the opposition.
