The National Leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has publicly distanced itself from a self-proclaimed faction known as the Interim Executive Committee (IEC), which is allegedly trying to take control of the party’s leadership in Ogun State.
In an official statement released by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, it was clarified that the only legitimate Executive body recognized in Ogun State is the Caretaker Committee led by Engr. Lookman Abiodun Jagun, established by the National Executive Committee (NEC), the party’s highest authority.
The statement labeled the Interim Executive Committee as an illegitimate entity, asserting that it has no basis in the Labour Party’s constitution or the National Leadership’s framework. It accused members of the IEC of attempting to usurp the party’s structure for personal gain.
The Labour Party emphasized that it operates under a defined structure and a valid constitution, mandating all members to adhere to its regulations. The party does not condone members taking on powers or responsibilities without proper authority from the constitution or the National Leadership.
Party loyalists in Ogun State are warned to remain vigilant against the machinations of the IEC, which lacks recognition and endorsement from the Labour Party’s National Leadership.
Additionally, the party encourages all current and prospective members to participate in the ongoing e-membership registration and revalidation process, ensuring their eligibility for upcoming activities, including congresses set to take place nationwide in February 2025.
