Onuoha Moses Chidi, a prominent figure in the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, has issued a stern warning to current lawmakers: without demonstrable achievements, their chances of re-election in 2027 are slim.
Speaking during an interview in Umuahia, Chidi expressed his astonishment at the underwhelming performance of many legislators in both the Abia State House of Assembly and the National Assembly, noting their failure to meet the expectations of their constituents.
He pointed out that some lawmakers are banking on the popularity of party leaders like Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti to secure their positions in the upcoming election. However, Chidi cautioned that voters are becoming increasingly discerning and will support only those who have delivered on their promises.
As the Coordinator of the Liberation Movement in Umuahia, he emphasized that the electorate in Abia will be vigilant in 2027, opting for candidates who genuinely serve the public over those who have been ineffective.
“Those lawmakers who think they can ride the coattails of Governor Alex Otti and Peter Obi to victory will be sorely mistaken in 2027. We will implement a strategic approach to voting that prioritizes genuine contributions over empty promises,” Chidi stated.
He criticized lawmakers who utilize the party’s structure to gain election but then neglect their responsibilities to the people who elected them. Chidi asserted that many who expect to benefit from Otti’s success will find themselves disappointed, as voters will only back candidates who have shown real commitment and effectiveness.
Chidi further advised Abia lawmakers to focus on bringing meaningful projects to their communities, engage with their constituents, and avoid becoming distant figures.
“Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti maintain their popularity because of their tangible achievements, but lawmakers must also work diligently to secure vital projects for their constituents if they wish to remain in office,” he concluded.
