In the midst of the Edo State gubernatorial elections, Prince Asamah Kadiri, the Labour Party’s deputy governorship candidate, has made serious allegations against the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming they are engaged in vote-buying practices.
Kadiri reported witnessing these alarming tactics first-hand in Auchi and across various regions in the Edo North district. After casting his ballot at Auchi Ward 1, Unit 6, he expressed his disappointment, stating, “It is disheartening to see the APC resorting to vote buying in my voting unit. Reports indicate that they are offering N10,000 for votes in Auchi and throughout the Edo North area.”
Despite these troubling claims, Kadiri acknowledged the bravery of some voters who stood firm against the coercive tactics of the APC, insisting on their right to vote for the party they support. He praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their management of the election process thus far.
However, Kadiri emphasized that it might be premature to fully assess the performance of the electoral body at this stage.
He urged INEC to closely supervise its officials in the field to safeguard against any fraudulent activities that might undermine the integrity of the elections.
