The Lagos State Government has announced that there will be a temporary traffic diversion at the Ikeja Along Bus Stop, specifically between Ile Zik and the Conoil Petrol Station on the Oshodi-bound lane. This diversion is scheduled to take place from Saturday, August 17th to Sunday, August 18th, 2024, during the early hours of the morning, from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am daily.
According to a statement released by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the traffic diversion is necessary to facilitate the safe demolition of the old pedestrian bridge at Ikeja Along. The Commissioner emphasized that the demolition is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and ensure the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
“To ensure safety during the demolition process, only one lane will be available to motorists on the Oshodi-bound side of the road, from Ile Zik Bus Stop up to the Conoil Petrol Filling Station,” Osiyemi explained. “This measure is being taken to prevent any potential hazards that might arise from the demolition activities, and to ensure that traffic continues to flow, albeit on a limited scale.”
The Commissioner assured the public that the traffic diversion would be well-managed and that efforts have been put in place to minimize inconvenience to road users. He highlighted that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be on the ground to oversee vehicular movement during the demolition period. LASTMA officials will be strategically positioned to guide motorists through the affected areas and ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible, despite the temporary disruption.
Importantly, the traffic diversion will not impact motorists traveling on the Dopemu/Abule Egba bound side of the road during the demolition.
