The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that local government elections will take place in 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).

This announcement follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that granted local governments more autonomy.

There has been some uncertainty in Lagos regarding the formation of the 37 LCDAs, which were established from the existing 20 local governments. Since these LCDAs lack constitutional recognition, questions have arisen about the state’s plans to hold elections for them.

However, Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC chairman in Lagos State, dismissed claims that elections might not occur in all 57 councils, labeling such suggestions as misleading distractions.

He stated, “We want to assure everyone that local government elections will be conducted across the state in both the 20 Local Government Councils and the 37 Local Council Development Areas in 2025.

“As a progressive party, we recognize the vital role of the LCDAs in the overall political and socio-economic advancement of the state.

“We hope this announcement will quell any further speculations regarding the local government elections and help maintain peace in the political atmosphere,” he added.
