The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has urged residents to refrain from attacking protesters.

Fayoade made this statement during a town hall meeting on Saturday, addressing traditional rulers and community leaders in Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, and Lagos Island local government areas.

According to thepaan News, a nationwide protest has been planned by some Nigerians to address the current hardships in the country. The protest is scheduled to run from August 1 to August 10.

While police and other security agencies have decided against allowing any protests in Lagos State, Fayoade emphasized that residents should not take the law into their own hands by attacking protesters.

“Any protest must be peaceful. We want to be aware of those planning to protest so that we can arrange for their security.

It is your right to protest legitimately as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others,” he said. “Any group planning a violent protest should reconsider.

Such groups will face the police and other security agencies.

We do not want a repeat of the #EndSARS incident. Residents should provide timely information to the police about any group planning a violent protest, rather than attacking them.”

Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, the traditional ruler of Ijora/Apapa, also urged his subjects not to participate in the planned protest.

All the traditional rulers and community leaders present at the meeting agreed that there should be no protests in Lagos State.

They commended the Commander of Area J Police Command, Mrs. Yemisi Ojo, for her efforts in combating crime in the area.

They also praised the Commissioner of Police for neutralizing nine kidnappers in Mushin recently and requested that he address the activities of land grabbers in their regions.
