A Lagos-based electrician has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the physical assault of his 17-year-old daughter. The verdict was handed down by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Friday, following months of trial.

The electrician, whose name is withheld to protect the identity of the minor, was found guilty of repeated acts of assault on his daughter.

The prosecution presented compelling evidence, including medical reports and witness testimonies, proving that the defendant had inflicted physical harm on the young girl over an extended period.

According to court documents, the abuse came to light when neighbours reported suspicious bruises on the teenager, leading to her rescue and the subsequent arrest of her father.

During the trial, the court heard how the electrician would regularly beat his daughter, causing her both physical and emotional trauma.

The electrician’s daughter receives counselling and support from the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. At the same time, efforts are being made to ensure her long-term well-being.

The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with many residents expressing relief that justice was served, while also calling for greater vigilance in protecting children from domestic violence.
