Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu proudly reported a significant rise in Lagos State’s GDP during his five-year tenure, attributing this success to innovative ideas and forward-thinking economic policies.

This announcement was made during a courtesy visit from the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), led by President and Chairman Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, at the Lagos House in Ikeja on Wednesday.

According to an official statement from the state’s website, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that his administration’s economic strategies have established a robust foundation for business growth and financial advancement.

“Our dedication to fostering a secure and prosperous environment for businesses has yielded positive results,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.

“The substantial increase in our state’s GDP over the past five years is a testament to our focused governance and developmental approach.”

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Lagos’ economy and cultivate a business-friendly atmosphere, assuring that more initiatives are underway to drive prosperity throughout the state.

Prof. Pius Olanrewaju, head of the CIBN Governing Council, commended the governor for his leadership and the significant impact of his administration on Lagos’ economic landscape.

He praised the infrastructure projects, governance reforms, and overall improvements in public services under Sanwo-Olu, noting their positive effects on millions of Lagos residents.

Olanrewaju also addressed CIBN’s initiatives to tackle the “Japa syndrome,” which has seen many banking professionals leaving Nigeria for opportunities abroad.

In response, the CIBN has launched an academy aimed at quickly training new personnel to ensure the industry maintains high-quality service despite the professional exodus.

Furthermore, it was announced that Governor Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, have been honored as Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, recognizing their contributions to financial services and governance.

In another meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu engaged with the leadership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) to discuss enhancing corporate governance in the state.

During this meeting, ICSAN President and Chairman in Council, Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, praised the Governor’s efforts in advancing Lagos’ developmental goals, particularly through the successful implementation of the THEMES+ Agenda, a policy framework designed to transform key sectors like transportation, health, and education.

“Good governance is the foundation of a prosperous society. We are dedicated to establishing structures that promote transparency and accountability,” the Governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that Lagos will continue to be a welcoming home for all Nigerians, a center for economic growth, and a space where individuals and businesses can thrive.

He assured that his administration remains focused on creating opportunities for personal and professional development, solidifying Lagos as a leading economic force in Nigeria and beyond.
