The Lagos State Government announced on Monday the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area, following its temporary closure for repairs less than two months ago.

State Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made the announcement in a statement, highlighting that the rehabilitation work was carried out by the Ministry of Works. The project, which began on July 22, 2024, was completed ahead of its 90-day schedule.

Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat led the reopening ceremony, underscoring the project’s early completion as a result of the exceptional efforts of all involved parties.

“This early reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge is a significant achievement for Lagos State,” Osiyemi said. “The project, initially slated for a 90-day duration, has been completed in under two months, thanks to the remarkable dedication and teamwork of the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Works, and the Ministry of Transportation.”

The Ministry of Works provided essential oversight and technical support, ensuring high standards in the rehabilitation, while the Ministry of Transportation managed overall traffic logistics to ensure smooth project execution.

Osiyemi also expressed gratitude to Lagosians for their patience and cooperation during the closure. “Your support and flexibility in using alternative routes were vital to the project’s success.”

The reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity between the Mainland and Island. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was also commended for their effective traffic management throughout the project.

“We appreciate the unwavering support of Lagosians and their commitment to the city’s development,” Osiyemi concluded.
