The Lagos State Government will launch an electronic call-up (e-call up) system to manage truck movements within the Lekki-Epe corridor, beginning September 23.
State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the initiative in a statement released on Sunday, emphasizing that the system aims to address severe traffic congestion caused by improper parking and movement of articulated vehicles.
“The introduction of the e-call up system marks a significant step toward alleviating traffic issues,” Osiyemi said. “The start date was postponed based on stakeholder feedback to ensure full compliance.”
The e-call up system will regulate truck access to the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industries along the corridor, stretching from Eleko Junction to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. It is designed to streamline vehicular movement in one of Lagos’s most crucial economic zones.
The system will coordinate truck entries and exits, preventing the chaotic traffic conditions often caused by indiscriminate truck parking and movement. This digital platform is seen as a vital component of the state’s broader plans for road network expansion and an integrated transport system.
Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, highlighted that interim measures are being put in place to ease road congestion by removing illegally parked articulated vehicles.
“The e-call up system, an advanced digital solution, is set to enhance the efficiency of goods and services movement within the Lekki-Epe corridor,” Giwa said. “Given the corridor’s significance, which includes major industrial sites such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone, the Dangote Refinery, and the Lekki Deep Sea Port, this system is essential for sustainable development and economic growth.”
