In Lagos State, the police have detained thirty-two people due to violent incidents at the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Akoka, Lagos. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, explained the situation in detail.

“For more than three months, the staff of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka prevented their Provost from entering his office,” Hundeyin stated on his X account late Monday.

A team sent by the Minister of Education came to the school to resolve the ongoing conflict. However, the staff, with help from some students, attacked the team from Abuja. They caused significant damage, including over five vehicles and the Provost’s official residence.

The situation escalated further when the rioting staff and students blocked all the exits and entrances to the college. The police arrived to control the situation and were met with stones and water sachets thrown by the rioters. Despite the resistance, the police managed to restore order.

“Thirty-two suspects have been arrested,” Hundeyin said, adding that police officers from the Area Command in Surulere are staying on-site to ensure that peace continues.

The school authorities have not yet made any comments regarding the incident.
