The Lagos State Government is committed to expanding the Lagos Criminal Information System (LCIS) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system.

The initiative involves integrating advanced technology to create a comprehensive and accessible database of criminal records.

According to the Attorney General, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, the LCIS includes features such as real-time data entry, improved case tracking, and seamless information sharing among law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and the judiciary.

The LCIS has already helped release more than 250 people through the Plea Bargain System and has facilitated the release of over 250 people through the Plea Bargain System, outright discontinuance of case where the offense allegedly committed is a minor offence or where case file of suspect was not forwarded to the office of the DPP.

The LCIS has also helped establish the first Juvenile Information System in Nigeria for children in conflict with the law.

Other achievements of the LCIS include providing support for the prerogative of mercy applications, collaborating with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development to profile underage offenders, and processing over 60,000 requests from Magistrates, High Courts, and the DPP prosecutors.

The Office of Public Defendant (OPD) has obtained 230 judgments in favor of the State, handled 1,812 child-related cases, and processed 316 domestic violence-related cases. The Directorate of Citizen’s Rights (DCR) has received and resolved a large number of petitions related to family, employment, and tenancy matters.

The Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court has arrested, arraigned, and convicted over 10,000 people for various minor offenses.
