The Lagos State Government has announced significant progress in the completion of various road projects, including the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge, set to be finalized by the end of this year.

With the aim of easing traffic congestion and providing alternative routes, the project will benefit motorists traveling between Toyin, Allen, Opebi, and Ojota, as well as those commuting from Maryland to Ikeja and surrounding areas.

During an inspection of five key road infrastructure projects, Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to the timely completion of ongoing road and bridge projects throughout the state.

These included the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with its accompanying bridge, the Ikeja Urban Regeneration Project spanning five kilometers, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge and roads, the Arowojobe Link Bridge and approach road at Maryland, and the Agidi Demurin and Church Street network in Kosofe Local Government Area. Additionally, the tour encompassed the Saint Finbarrs Road, connecting UNILAG to Abule Okuta-Soluyi.

Despite encountering delays caused by adverse weather conditions, Daramola reassured that contractors are diligently working towards completing the projects as scheduled.

“This tour serves as a verification of our contractors’ progress. Despite the challenges posed by the rain, our public works are still ongoing,” he affirmed.

Expressing satisfaction with the observed progress, Commissioner Omotoso highlighted the state government’s efforts to engage the youth and students in learning new technological trends.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication is evident in the steady progress despite the inclement weather. Our contractors are committed to meeting the deadlines,” he remarked.

Apologun Onetere, a 400-level student from Babcock University, who participated as a student intern, shared his positive experience, stating, “Through this opportunity, I have gained valuable insights into the foundation of bridge construction, particularly piling techniques. It’s truly refreshing to witness theoretical knowledge being applied in practice.”
