A recent development in Rivers State has seen a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt issue a restraining order against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), preventing them from conducting their scheduled Congress in the state.

The order was granted in response to an originating summons and motion ex-parte filed by a group of individuals, including Hon. David Chinedu Omereji, Hon. Prince Solomon Eke, Isodoye Tobin, Goddy Manfred Pepple, Okiah Precious Chigozirim, Hon. Orolosama Peter Amachree,

Goodfriday Nweke, Alfred Letam, Hon. Wechie Ndubisi Raymond, Mrs. Erebie Michael, and Hon. Ogenma Idalunimulu. They filed the action against the PDP, its National Chairman, National Financial Secretary, and National Organising Secretary.

Presided over by Justice Sobere Biambo, the restraining order states: “In light of the action filed on July 15, 2024, through an originating summons and a motion ex-parte, seeking an interim injunction to restrain the defendants from holding or carrying out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Congress in Rivers State, scheduled for today, before His Lordship, Hon. Justice Sobere Biambo sitting at High Court 13, Port Harcourt…”

The order further directs the defendants to refrain from holding or rescheduling the PDP Congress in Rivers State on any other date or location. It also suspends the Congress scheduled for July 27, 2024, pending the determination of the motion on notice already filed.

Legal Restraint Imposed on PDP Congress in Rivers State

Additionally, the defendants are prohibited from making any decisions or extending the tenure of the previous State, Local Government, and Ward Executive Officers of the PDP in Rivers State.

This legal restraint adds a new chapter to the ongoing political landscape in Rivers State, raising questions about the future of the PDP Congress and the implications it may have on the party’s activities in the region.

The court’s decision will undoubtedly have significant consequences for the PDP and its members, as they navigate these legal hurdles in their pursuit of political objectives in the state.
