American rapper Lil Wayne has expressed his deep disappointment after not being selected as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show. The artist shared his emotional reaction in a viral video, revealing how the decision “broke” him.
According to Thepaan, Nicki Minaj and some of Lil Wayne’s fans have criticized Jay-Z, who was responsible for choosing the headliner, for selecting Kendrick Lamar over Wayne. Fans felt Wayne should have been given the honor, especially with the Super Bowl taking place in his hometown of New Orleans.
In his video message, Lil Wayne took responsibility for his reaction, admitting that he wasn’t mentally prepared for the rejection.
He said, “That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. I thought there was nothing better than that stage in my city… It broke me, and I’m just trying to put me back together.”
