On Monday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State faced a wave of defection as supporters loyal to former Senator Shehu Sani made the switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This mass defection followed the recent PDP State Congress, which took place last Saturday in Kaduna.
The new APC members were warmly welcomed at the party’s office, where they proudly displayed portraits of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and Shehu Sani, all while chanting songs of solidarity.
Shehu Sani, who served as the Senator for Kaduna Central from 2015 to 2019, had previously sought the PDP gubernatorial nomination in the 2023 elections but faced defeat in the primaries.
The defectors, hailing from all 23 local government areas across Kaduna State, gathered at the APC Campaign Office located at the NEPA Roundabout on Muhammadu Buhari Way, joyfully singing tunes that hinted at Sani’s anticipated return to the APC.
Supporters expressed their determination to convince Sani to rejoin the ruling party, confidently predicting that he would make his official move to the APC in the upcoming week.
Monday Jaji, a prominent figure among the defectors and Sani’s former Campaign Director in the PRP, revealed that he had been advocating for Sani’s return for over two years, citing the senator’s impressive record during his tenure with the APC.
Jaji hailed Shehu Sani as a champion for the people, committed to honesty and integrity.
He stated, “During his time in the Senate, Comrade Sani established seven hospitals across his district, provided over 200 transformers to various communities, supported those in need, and even purchased a home for the less fortunate on Kano Road. Additionally, he constructed a hospital in Chikun and three more in the Igabi Local Government area, including Rigachikun and Giwa.”
Welcoming the defectors, Kaduna State APC Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd), expressed his excitement about their return to the party, asserting that this development would elevate the APC and Kaduna State to new heights.
