Tragedy struck this morning as a man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize transformer cables in the Makurdi area of Benue State.
According to residents, the unidentified man was seen tampering with the transformer cables around 5:30 am in an attempt to steal them when he was fatally electrocuted. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud spark before discovering the man’s lifeless body lying near the transformer.
The incident has sparked widespread concerns among residents, many of whom rely on the transformer for electricity. A community leader, Mr. Terver Adoga, condemned the act, urging the government to tighten security around public infrastructures to prevent future occurrences.
Police authorities have been informed, and the area has been cordoned off as investigations are underway.
