Tragedy struck in Delta State on Friday when a man was electrocuted while making a phone call under a high-voltage wire.The incident occurred in the street of Oghara, sending shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitnesses report that the man, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was standing directly beneath a danger wire marked with high-voltage warnings. Unbeknownst to him, the wire had been damaged, exposing the live current.
According to local residents, the man was engrossed in his phone call and did not notice the deteriorated state of the wire overhead. As he stood in the same spot for an extended period, an electrical surge from the wire struck him, causing instantaneous electrocution. Nearby individuals attempted to rush to his aid but were unable to approach due to the high risk of electrocution.
Emergency services were promptly called to the scene. However, upon their arrival, the man was pronounced dead. His body was subsequently taken to a nearby morgue pending identification and notification of his next of kin.
Delta State Police have launched an investigation into the incident, urging the public to exercise caution and avoid standing under power lines, especially those marked as dangerous.
