An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Friday, issued a ruling to detain a 33-year-old man named Kabiru Arewa in a correctional facility for the alleged murder of his 24-year-old wife, Suliyat.

Arewa, whose residence details were not disclosed, was accused of the crime of murder.

The Magistrate, Mr Olaolu Olanipekun, opted not to entertain the defendant’s plea citing a lack of jurisdiction in the matter.

He instructed the police to send the case file back to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal guidance and then postponed the case until June 28 for further proceedings.

The Prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, previously informed the court that the accused committed the offense on May 22 around 8.00 pm in the Olunloyo area of Ibadan. Igori stated that the defendant caused his wife’s death by striking her forcefully with a blow from his fist on her chest.

The Prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, mentioned that the act committed by the defendant goes against Section 319 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
