Former US President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to his wife, Melania Trump, with a kiss after she surprised him by attending the final day of the Republican National Convention on Thursday night, July 18. This event marked Trump’s acceptance of the Republican party’s nomination for president.

The former first lady, along with Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, had been notably absent from the campaign trail this year. This was a significant change from Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns, where both women played more prominent roles.

Trump’s family, excluding Melania, entered the arena after he signed the paperwork to formally accept the GOP nomination. They took their seats in the family box and listened to a speech by wrestler Hulk Hogan.

Melania Trump made her entrance alone, smiling and waving to the crowd as she walked into the arena and ascended a flight of stairs to sit next to vice presidential nominee JD Vance. She wore a red skirt suit, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 played in the background.

During his speech, Trump acknowledged his wife’s presence, saying, “On this journey, I am deeply honored to be joined by my amazing wife, Melania,” receiving extended applause. “And Melania, thank you very much.”

He further appreciated her, mentioning, “She did something really beautiful” in reference to her statement calling for unity after a recent shooting.

Following his remarks, Melania approached Trump and whispered in his ear. Trump responded with a kiss on her cheek, a tender moment contrasting the more typical public displays of affection.

As the family remained on stage for about 20 minutes, Melania stood by Trump’s side, displaying affection by touching his arm and engaging in conversation with Vance and his wife, Usha Vance.
