The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has acknowledged the military’s significant progress in combating terrorism and criminal activities in Nigeria’s North-East but cautioned that the fight is far from over.
General Musa made this statement during an assessment visit to troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Thursday.
“Our ultimate goal is to secure Nigeria and make it a peaceful nation. This is a collective responsibility, and I have every confidence that together, we’ll achieve it,” General Musa stated.
While commending the troops for their relentless efforts, he urged them to stay focused and committed to their mission. “We’ve made significant strides in combating terrorism and criminality, but our work is far from over. We mustn’t relent until we have completely eradicated these threats,” he emphasized.
To further boost morale, General Musa announced plans to prioritize troop welfare and rotation. He pledged that no soldier would serve more than two years without opportunities for courses and training, ensuring a better work-life balance for the troops.
“Discipline is what sets us apart,” he remarked. “I commend your exceptional turnout in every operation. Remember, your families are counting on you, and we’ve made provisions to ensure they’re well taken care of.”
General Musa also expressed the nation’s gratitude for the troops’ sacrifices, particularly highlighting their outstanding response during the recent flooding in Maiduguri. “The entire country applauds your conduct and prompt response. Mr. President and the people of Nigeria are especially grateful for your service,” he added.
During his visit, General Musa met with Shehu Abubakar Ibn Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi to commiserate over the flooding that ravaged Maiduguri city. He also visited Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and toured affected areas. Accompanied by top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff, General Musa offered prayers for protection against future calamities.
The visit was aimed at boosting troop morale and reaffirming the military’s commitment to securing Nigeria against all threats.
