The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, has expressed strong disapproval and sadness over the destruction of a technology hub known as the Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano. This park, designed to aid Nigeria’s technical talent accelerator program called 3MTT, was severely damaged and looted during protests against hunger and hardship that took place on Thursday.
These unfortunate events happened just a few days before the park’s official launch. In a statement shared on social media platform X, Dr. Tijani voiced his sorrow: “I am deeply saddened to learn that our Digital Innovation Park in Kano, which was set to launch next week to support our technical talent accelerator program (3MTT), has been set on fire and looted by protesters.”
Dr. Tijani emphasized how this destruction would immediately affect the planned initiatives. He noted, “Alongside the 3MTT program, this building was also supposed to host our buildathon holiday maker program for secondary school students, starting next week.”
He described the damage as a significant setback in efforts to enhance the technology workforce and create job opportunities for young people. “Millions of Naira have gone down the drain,” Dr. Tijani lamented. This incident is a major blow to the development of the technology sector and the future opportunities it was meant to provide for Nigeria’s youth.
