The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has publicly disagreed with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) regarding its investigation into Air Peace, a domestic airline accused of charging exploitative fares.

In a recent interview, Keyamo labeled the FCCPC’s statements concerning the Air Peace inquiry as “careless” and “reckless.”

The FCCPC had previously committed to pursuing its investigation of Air Peace, claiming that the airline was hindering its efforts to examine the allegations of unfair pricing practices.

In response, Keyamo criticized the FCCPC for making such serious accusations without first consulting the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which is the primary regulatory body in the aviation sector.

“It was irresponsible for that agency (FCCPC) to issue such a statement without engaging with the core regulatory authority in the aviation industry, the NCAA,” he stated.

He emphasized, “The responsibility for regulating airline pricing and informing the public about fare structures rests with the NCAA.”
