The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the temporary suspension of the contentious $300 helicopter landing fee.
This decision comes in response to the rejection of the fee by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), who argue that it is commercially detrimental.
A committee has been established to address the concerns raised by stakeholders and is expected to submit a report by the end of June.
The committee comprises members from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, relevant agencies, AON, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and Messers NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd, who were granted consultancy rights by the Federal Government to collect the levies.
The suspension, effective from May 30, 2024, reflects the Minister’s acknowledgement of the industry’s call for a review.
The committee’s recommendations will provide a way forward in resolving the issues surrounding the helicopter landing levies.
