Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has taken action to revoke 762 plots of land in Abuja due to non-payment of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O).
The properties, situated in the prestigious Maitama 1 District, are owned by several high-profile individuals and corporate entities.
Among those affected are former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, and ex-governors Rochas Okorocha, Ben Ayade, and Seriake Dickson.
The revocation also impacts both former and current federal lawmakers, including Dino Melaye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Abdul Ningi.
In addition, Wike has provided a two-week deadline for 614 other individuals and organizations to pay their outstanding fees, warning them that failure to do so may result in the loss of their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O).
A notice from the Federal Capital Territory Administration stated, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration wishes to inform the allottees/title holders of plots in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills
Following the expiration of the grace period granted by the Honourable Minister that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property has been revoked, in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for violating the terms of the grant which require title/interest holders to settle all bills.”
