Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused the camp of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi of conspiring against him due to his refusal to align with them during the recent elections.

Speaking at a private luncheon with stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, Wike hosted the event in honor of the faction led by Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers House of Assembly.

The former governor of Rivers State revealed that he was heavily courted for support by Obi’s camp during the 2023 presidential race but ultimately declined to back him, believing that Obi had no chance of winning.

Wike noted that there are also factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that are rallying against him, as some members are eyeing the party’s presidential nomination for 2027.

He confidently declared that his political adversaries would not succeed in their efforts against him.

He remarked, “Peter Obi’s supporters sought my backing persistently, and I made it clear that his candidacy would not succeed. I told them, ‘Rivers State will not support a candidate who cannot win.’ Now, they’re trying to retaliate against us, but they are merely fighting amongst themselves.”

Wike further asserted, “Within the PDP, there is a faction aiming for the presidency, and they believe that if they don’t take action now, they may face challenges. I assure you, they will encounter difficulties.”

He also mentioned a prominent figure from the APC who is involved in the situation, emphasizing, “All these groups combined will ultimately face defeat.”
