A mortuary attendant at the General Hospital in Lokoja has been arrested this morning in connection with the disappearance of several corpses from the hospital’s mortuary.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Durojaiye, was taken into custody following a series of complaints from bereaved families who reported that the bodies of their deceased relatives were missing.
The hospital management initiated an internal investigation which led to the discovery of discrepancies in the mortuary’s records and the physical count of the bodies.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the arrest was made after preliminary findings suggested foul play. “We received multiple reports from the public and acted swiftly to address the situation.
Mr. Durojaiye is currently being interrogated, and we are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the corpses,” said Police Public Relations Officer.
Families of the missing bodies have expressed their distress and anger over the incident, demanding thorough investigations and justice for their loved ones.
“This is a very traumatic experience for us. We just want to give our mother a proper burial,” lamented Mrs. Ameh, one of the affected family members.
The Kogi State Ministry of Health has also expressed its commitment to getting to the bottom of the issue. “We are taking this matter very seriously. The integrity of our health institutions is paramount, and we will ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” stated Dr. Ujah
