MultiChoice has quietly discontinued its DStv Internet fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) products, which included bundled offers that combined DStv subscriptions with affordable home fibre packages. Launched in October 2022, these packages provided significant discounts compared to purchasing services separately.
Pricing for standalone FTTH packages began at R549 for a 25/10Mbps connection. Bundled offers allowed customers to pay R999 monthly for a DStv Streama box, Wi-Fi router, and a streaming package, effectively lowering the cost of the DStv Premium service.
However, recent checks revealed that DStv no longer advertises any fibre products on its website, indicating a shift in strategy. MultiChoice stated it is focusing on fixed-LTE products instead, as these better meet customer needs. The company plans to introduce a new DStv Internet and Showmax bundle in October 2024.
While the fixed-LTE options remain available, they generally do not compete well with other internet service providers (ISPs). For example, Axxess offers a month-to-month 40GB fixed-LTE package for the same price as DStv’s entry-level product but provides better value overall.
DStv’s remaining internet packages include various data allocations at competitive prices, but the absence of fibre options may disappoint customers seeking high-speed internet bundled with entertainment services. As the market evolves, MultiChoice will continue to assess its offerings to align with customer demands.
