A tragic incident unfolded in Suleja, Niger State, where several protesters were reportedly shot dead, and others sustained injuries during an ongoing protest. Eyewitnesses claim that three people were killed, allegedly by security operatives.
An X user, @Humeeerat, shared the shocking news: “This isn’t fake news! The Police shot 3 protesters in Suleja, Niger State during the peaceful protest.”
The situation escalated as police officers present at the scene were unable to control the large number of protesters. A reinforcement team was dispatched to manage the chaotic situation.
One of the victims, Yahaya Nda Isah, a resident of Hassan Dalatu Road in Suleja, was struck by a stray bullet while riding his bike. The bullet hit Isah in front of the Suleja Police ‘A’ division, where protesters had gathered.
A nephew of the deceased recounted the incident to Daily Trust: “He was my uncle. He was not even protesting. He was passing in front of the Police ‘A’ division where some people were protesting when a stray bullet hit him in his chest, and he died on the spot. As I speak with you, I am in his house alongside other mourners. It’s unfortunate.”
Another victim, identified simply as Mallam Abu, also died at the scene. According to the publication, a resident, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that three other people were shot at the same location, and two others were shot at Suleja Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna road. The resident could not confirm the status of the other victims.
The news of the alleged killings has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who have taken to various social media platforms to express their anger and demand justice for the victims.
