The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philips Shaibu, revealed on Friday that his spirit has left PDP but now in APC
He considered himself an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although he remains a part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in an official capacity, he indicated that his allegiance has shifted.
During an interview with thepaan , Shaibu responded to questions regarding his support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo. He clarified that, in his heart, he had already left the PDP.
“In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party,” Shaibu stated.
He elaborated, “As of now, I’m a PDP man, and I will not support anybody while I am in another party contrary to who I am supporting. For now, I am a member of PDP, but going forward, I am as good as being a member of APC; I can tell you that.”
When challenged about his apparent dual allegiance, Shaibu responded, “No, both legs are in APC. The only thing keeping me in PDP is that I have not officially declared. In essence, I am actually a member of APC, just not officially.
My spirit has left PDP for a long time; only my physical presence remains because I still hold my PDP membership card and haven’t yet obtained an APC card. But in spirit, I am now with APC.”
Shaibu also claimed that since the onset of the political crisis in the state, he had attempted to contact Governor Godwin Obaseki 111 times without success.
“I had decided to stop calling him, but I continue to send texts. Before I stopped counting, I had called him 111 times during the crisis, but he never answered. I also sent texts that went unanswered, but it didn’t really matter. The last text I sent was on his birthday,” Shaibu shared.
