The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed its appreciation to the Federal Government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for reaching a preliminary agreement to resolve the extended strike by ASUU.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and jointly signed by Senate President Okunomo Henry Adewumi and Clerk of the Senate Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, NANS noted that this tentative agreement is a step towards a harmonious solution that will benefit students and bring peace back to university campuses.
The statement specifically praised the Federal Government for its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue and to consider the demands of the students. NANS described this as a commendable commitment to the welfare of Nigerian students.
NANS also acknowledged the leadership of ASUU for their decision to ease their stance and prioritize the interests of the students.
“NANS remains dedicated to advocating for the rights and interests of Nigerian students. We will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure that the agreement is implemented in the best interests of the students and that our education system is restored to its former excellence.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, including the media, for their unwavering support and solidarity. Together, we will revive the dignity of our education system and empower the future leaders of our great nation,” the statement concluded.
