Nigeria is taking a bold step towards boosting its defense power and becoming more independent in producing military tools. On Wednesday, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) partnered with the Ministry of Defence to create a factory that will focus on making ammunition locally. This agreement represents a key move towards making sure Nigeria can stand on its own when it comes to defense needs.

At the signing event, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, who is the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, shared his thoughts on the importance of this project. He explained that building Nigeria’s own Military Industrial Complex is not just a smart idea but something that is absolutely necessary. According to him, the world is changing fast, and Nigeria needs to be prepared for whatever may come.

“This agreement is the start of something big,” Halilu said. “It’s going to change the way we handle defense in Nigeria. We’re working to make sure that our military has the tools it needs to protect the country, all while reducing how much we depend on other countries for help.”

NASENI is known for its work in research and manufacturing. Now, it will play a big role in creating this Military Industrial Complex. The complex will be a place where weapons and other military tools, from small guns to advanced defense systems, are developed and produced. The goal is to make sure that the Nigerian Armed Forces have everything they need right here at home, instead of having to rely on imports. It will also boost local industries, creating jobs and strengthening the economy.

Mr. Halilu praised the Ministry of Defence for their support and commitment to the project. He gave special thanks to Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, for believing in NASENI’s ability to help Nigeria build a strong defense industry.

“This partnership is about more than just improving our military’s tools,” Halilu added. “It’s about building a stronger Nigeria, both in terms of security and economy. We want to create a defense industry that will help our country for years to come.”

The agreement between NASENI and the Ministry of Defence is more than just a business deal. It’s a partnership that will benefit Nigeria’s national security and economic development. Key government officials, including Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Minister of Steel Development, and senior leaders of the Nigerian Armed Forces, were present to witness this historic event. They all believe that this initiative will help Nigeria move forward as a nation, ensuring a safer future for everyone.
