Huawei Technologies has announced its support for Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts, particularly through initiatives like DigiTruck and the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program, as well as the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). This commitment was made clear during Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Huawei’s Research Centre in Beijing, China.
During his visit, President Tinubu discussed key initiatives with Huawei aimed at boosting digital literacy and developing technological talent in Nigeria. Mr. Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei’s Board of Directors, praised President Tinubu for recognizing the importance of digital technology in driving economic growth. He stated, “Huawei is ready to support Nigeria with our ICT expertise, helping the country achieve its digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development goals.”
One of the highlights of Huawei’s support is the DigiTruck initiative. DigiTruck is a mobile classroom designed to enhance digital literacy by providing ICT training in underserved communities. This mobile unit is equipped with computers, internet access, and educational materials tailored to diverse learning needs. The initiative plans to operate in 10 Nigerian states each year, aiming to train at least 3,000 students annually.
Additionally, Huawei is backing the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, emphasized the company’s intention to further develop the Network Operations Center (NOC). By expanding its capacity, the NOC aims to meet the needs of more African markets, allowing Nigerian tech talents to serve international markets, thereby fulfilling NATEP’s objectives.
During the tour of Huawei’s Research Centre, President Tinubu and his delegation were introduced to cutting-edge innovations in e-government, smart education, smart grids, and solar power. These technologies hold the potential to significantly improve public services and digital governance, aligning with Nigeria’s development goals.
Furthermore, Huawei announced plans to collaborate with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to establish a joint photovoltaic (PV) test lab. This lab will support Nigeria’s digital transformation and low-carbon development efforts, contributing to sustainable growth.
