The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE) is planning to integrate Arabic Studies to its curriculum.
Nura Muhammad, the spokesperson for NCAOOSCE, shared this news on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
NCAOOSCE is working with the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) and the Nigeria Arabic Language Village (NALV) to improve education for Almajiri students.
Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, the head of NCAOOSCE, announced this plan during a meeting with these organizations in Kaduna.
The goal is to give Almajiri students a complete education, including learning Arabic and understanding Islamic teachings. Dr. Idris said it’s important for students to understand Arabic so they can’t be misled by people who twist the meaning of the Qur’an.
NCAOOSCE also plans to teach English to Almajiri students to help them succeed in today’s world.
Dr. Idris explained that working with different agencies will help Almajiri students get a well-rounded education. This could allow them to attend universities like the Islamic University of Madina or the Islamic University of Niger and find jobs in the judiciary, foreign missions, or as teachers.

He also asked NBAIS to let NCAOOSCE take over the Tsangaya Unit to use it as a learning center for Almajiri education. The commission will also create a fast-track learning program for out-of-school children in southern Nigeria, helping them reach higher education levels.
NCAOOSCE will work with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to stop child trafficking, child labor, and other abuses.
Prof. Yahuza Imam of NBAIS and Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad of NALV promised to support efforts to help out-of-school children in Nigeria.
