The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has begun the harvest of rice from its farms across its eight mandate states.

At the harvest event in Warrake Farm, Warrake, Owan East, Edo State, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director/CEO, represented by Mrs. Winifred Madume, NDDC Director of Agriculture/Fisheries, highlighted that the program is designed to be self-sustaining and aims to attract financial institutions and other partners to expand its reach to more communities and farmers.

The program’s consultant, Japtini Food and Retail Company, revealed that while the rice was planted on approximately 50 hectares of land, only 25 hectares yielded crops due to late planting.

The estimated harvest is about three tons per hectare.
